APIC MN Basic Infection Prevention Course October 27th-29th

This interactive course will offer a comprehensive foundation for professionals specializing in infection prevention in all settings of health care including: Acute Care, Ambulatory Care, Home Care, Long Term Care and Public Health.

Participants who attend this course will:

  • Examine the elements of an effective infection prevention program and the resources that support them.
  • Gain understanding of how evidenced-based recommendations are used to implement best practices to prevent infections.
  • Sharpen networking skills with colleagues to share experience and to gain access to additional resources.
  • Increase awareness of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid’s conditions of participation to qualify for 3rd party reimbursement.
  • Expand knowledge of compliance with state and national regulatory standards that impact your facility’s licensure or accreditation.
  • Improve understanding of the impact of infection
  • Prevention strategies to support the mission and goals of your healthcare system.

Continuing Education Credits
This program has been designed to meet continuing nursing education credits. A certificate of attendance for 24 contact hours will be given to each participant at the course conclusion.

Instructors
Certified (CIC) preventionists from a variety of settings will provide the instruction. Mary Larweck, RN, MS, CIC, will facilitate the course.

APIC Text
Attendees must bring the APIC Text of Infection Control & Epidemiology. You will use this resource during the course and in your day-to-day practice. Text is available for purchase from the APIC Bookstore at www.apic.org.

Pre-Course Assignment
All attendees will be asked to give a 5-10 minute talk on a topic that will be assigned prior to the course.

Pilot Project Invitation For Prevention Of Healthcare Associated Infections

The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Minnesota Hospital Association (MHA) invite acute care hospitals to participate in one of two one-year pilot projects (11/2010-10/2011) aimed at preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAI): surgical site infections (SSI) or Clostridium difficile infections (CDI).

MDH and MHA will work with five to ten hospitals to pilot each of these projects. Hospitals participating in the SSI project will be strongly encouraged to enroll in and submit data to the National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN).
